THE MAKER’S BENCH
Product Design & Prototype
How can consumers be brought into the fabrication process?
The Maker’s Bench invites users to partake of the making of their furniture, creating a way to customize and transform space. Mechanical fasteners are used only to secure the main box, which features uniform holes across its surfaces. Every other attachment includes an end peg that can fit into any hole, thus creating an unknown amount of possible configurations. Pieces are measured to create a comfortable two-person bench or a coffee table, with other possibilities left up to the user. When packed away, the pieces can nest within the box to create optimal storage. Craft is heavily considered, to present cohesion and a finished appearance while remaining infinitely incomplete.
